About Us

What is our history?

National Mini Storage was one of the first Self Storage companies in New Zealand when we opened our Penrose branch in 1991. Between 1992 and 1996 five further Auckland sites were purchased and developed into self-storage facilities. In 2007 we added another facility,  Albany 2, converting an existing warehouse, making 7 locations in total. It was great to celebrate our 20th year in business in 2011 with a celebration for our staff, long term suppliers and business partners.In 2014 we purchased an existing storage facility, the first time we have not built, to give us 8 storage facilities in Auckland. In 2015 we completed an extension of our Albany 2 facility adding more storage units and we also opened our 9th facility in Newmarket in November 2016. Our 10th facility in Hobsonville was opened in September 2018.

Each new build or extension has incorporate new technologies or innovations to improve the service we provide to our customers and our regular maintenance and upgrades ensure that the branches remain smart and well maintained. During our 27 years in business, we have won the following awards for our facilities and staff in competition with other facilities across Australia and New Zealand.

What is important to us?

We are proud to be a 100% independently Kiwi owned and operated company and our branches are located close to motorways or main roads so they are easy to access for our customers. At our core, we want to Innovate for Simplicity making it easier for our customers, our suppliers and our staff to interact with one another to achieve the best possible outcome. This means we often lead the market in providing innovative technology and additional services which makes it easier for our customers. It drives our process reviews, our business direction and how our staff behave with our customers.

We want to create space in our customer's homes, offices, apartments and warehouses knowing that their stuff is safe and secure in our facilities. We want to make space in their lives by making it quick and simple to deal with us so that they can focus on the important things that are going on.

There are a mix of roles available at our nine National Mini Storage locations - both full and part time roles involving week and weekend work.


These part time roles are at several branches and help keep the facilities clean and well maintained. This work can include cleaning vacated units, sweeping and maintaining outside concrete areas, gardening, lawns and cleaning exterior walls. It can also include some minor maintenance and repairs.


Responsible for managing all aspects of a branch's business from dealing with customers directly, working with their team to achieving sales targets, managing expenses, managing payments and late accounts, monitoring of security and maintaining the facility.

Self Storage Consultants

Full-time & Part-time

A varied role in our retail branch that involves selling storage to customers through email, phone and in person, dealing with general customer enquiries or payments, maintaining and cleaning the facility as well as security responsibilities.
